george lassos the moon.
George Bailey: What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon, Mary.
Mary: I'll take it. Then what?
George Bailey: Well, then you can swallow it, and it'll all dissolve, see... and the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair... am I talking too much?

spend all you have for loveliness.
Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children's faces looking up,
Holding wonder like a cup.
Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like the curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.
Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.

whenever men are right they are not young.
may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old
may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young
and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile
--- e.e. cummings, may my heart always be open.

funny doesn't sag.
Reese Witherspoon is killing it in her January Glamour spread.
I don't typically go in for woman's mags and romantic comedies, but Reese is my big exception. I think each of us has that one celebrity we just like - the one we feel is a better version of ourselves or would make an excellent neighbor. Reese has been my celebrity alter ego since I was 14 and my friends whispered, "That's you!" in the middle of Legally Blonde. (I think it was the combination of pink resume paper & rapid fire arguing.) Nearly 10 years later and I still take the comparison as a compliment. She always looks stylish, is proud of her Southern roots, readily describes herself as a Type A personality - and she's 5'2 to boot. A girl could do worse for role models.
